.Why should my next shoot be HD?

HDTV has at least twice the linear resolution of standard-definition television (SDTV), thus allowing much more detail to be shown compared with analog television or regular DVD. In addition, the technical standards for broadcasting HDTV are also able to handle 16:9 aspect ratio pictures without using letterboxing or anamorphic stretching, thus further increasing the effective resolution for such content.

While
gear, equipment and camera selection is certainly important considerations for video projects, they do not replace the competence of the people who run them. The best videographers in the industry can make almost any format look beautiful. What we have found is that the marriage between the best talent and the best equipment guarantees the ultimate finished product.

When looking at choosing a High Definition camera for your next shoot you basically have two options.

2/3 inch "True High Definition" Cameras:
These cameras include the Sony CineAtla or the Panasonic Varicam. Both have 2/3 inch HD sensors and come with interchangeable professional lens. These are the cameras which provide the clearest High Definition recordings and will add $1000 to $2000 per day to your shooting budget.

HDV Cameras:
A very popular and accessible High Definition format is HDV. HDV is a highly compressed form of HD. The cameras a smaller in form factor than their higher quality counterparts and are very convenient in situations where multiple quick set-ups are needed or for shooting in close quarters. These cameras, in the right hands, can produce beautiful HD images and are included in our production day rate.
